Martin, veterinář a muž v nejlepších letech, ztratí v důsledku těžkého úrazu mozku jakoukoli možnost komunikovat se světem a svět s ním, trpí tzv. afázií. Kolem však zůstaly všechny důležité ženy jeho života: manželka Erika, chovatelka Jana i Martinova matka Dana. Je na nich, aby vyprávěly Martinův příběh. Každá z nich má ovšem svoji verzi událostí, tím spíše, když se o vše začíná zajímat policie. Martin je totiž mrtvý a někdo mu ke smrti pomohl. Z kontrastů jednotlivých výpovědí se začíná vynořovat neúprosná pravda. Silný psychologický příběh o snaze porozumět – řeči, činům i touhám druhého člověka.
